The show will be on display at R. Alexander from September 1st - 23rd, 2017. Come view our sculpture garden as well!

Spanish artist Rosana Sitcha offers viewers a first-person outlook on some of the busiest cities in the world. Instead of recreating the vastness of cities such as London, Madrid and New York, Sitcha closely crops each scene to reduce the scale of the surroundings and provide a more individualized approach. Sitcha engages her audience and cleverly provides settings in which each person may determine the meaning.

“The majority of my works are feminine nudes through which I would like to transmit the calm, love, and passion that fills each of my model's lives.”

Oscar Mersch depicts international metropolises ranging from New York to Paris in his unique style that masterfully blends realism with impressionism. His cityscapes place the viewer in a liminal space, not quite an objective observer yet not an active participant in the city bustle. Each work evokes an emotional response from the viewer as a result of its atmospheric haze, moody color palette, and intimate perspectives.

In contrast to the cityscapes of Sitcha and Mersch, artist Jose Borrell presents portraits that redefine conventional figurative painting. As he explains, "The majority of my works are feminine nudes through which I would like to transmit the calm, love, and passion that fills each of my model's lives." Each painting is a multidimensional scene that contemplates the role of the nude. The effect, in turn, is the realization that the body is not only a measure of physical human beauty, reiterated by the aesthetic values of the painting - it is a vessel useful for expressing greater human emotions and ideas that transcend form.

Whether depicted realistically or conceptually, these artists invite viewers into their surroundings to experience daily life.
